THE SCHOOL WITH A GREAT HEART

The School for elementary and secondary education, "Milan Petrović" from Novi Sad represents in the same time the Center for rehabilitation of children with special needs.

Special treatment encompasses 900 children and adults with different types of handicap, whose age ranges from 4 to 40.

The special treatment of children with special needs was introduced in Novi Sad eighty years ago and it lasts until present days.

1920 - The School in Nature, for frequently ill and feeble children was founded
1923 - F irst supplementary classes were established in regular schools
1932 - The first supplementary school was founded and it soon became the largest school in Serbia of that category
1946 - The work of supplementary classes in elementary schools "Vasa Stajic", "Ivo Lola Ribar" and "Ivan Gundulic" in Novi Sad was renewed
1958 - On the initiative of the Association of Special Teachers the independent supplementary school was established
1961 – The school was named Special School " Milan Petrović"
1973 – First supplementary classes were established in Zabalj, Curug and by the Children's Hospital
Today it is the School for elementary and secondary education " Milan Petrović".

We educate, train and qualify children with moderate mental retardation, damaged eyesight, physical disability and autism, children and adults with moderate mental retardation and children and adults with multiple disorders.

Through observation and individually created treatments, we detect and cherish the capacities of our students. We do not only teach our children about letters and numbers but also how to see, hear, touch, walk, be aware of themselves and others; we teach them how to laugh, rejoice, play and be happy.

In our school children are taught about life because we are The School of life, The School with a great heart.
The main goal in the rehabilitation process in the School for Elementary and Secondary Education "Milan Petrovic" is successful integration of children with special needs into a wider social community.
